Project 5B: Neighbourhood Improvement Plan (Through Synthesis)

For this project, we have to prepare a proposal based on Project 5A findings and output. Our proposal must consist of conceptual architectural planning improvement ideas and also illustration of ideas. This project was still in a group form thus each and everyone of us in the group had to come up with our own individual proposal for our specific site. These proposals then had to be in report form where each design proposals were supposed to be done in a A3 catridge paper. Compilation of all the design proposals were then made into a report in A4 sized not less than 10 pages but more than 20 pages and the report had to be comb/ring-bounded.

One important lesson I learnt in this project is that a good design proposal happens when we pay close attention to all important qualities of good neighbourhood elements; overall layout plan, circulation/movement networks, public open spaces, public facilities, and overall landscape and street furniture. These important qualities did help me to improve my design as it made me think of not only the sustainabillity of the design, but also for human comfort and environmetal friendliness of it.

My design proposal is a pedestrian bridge. I proposed this as our site do not have even one pedestrian bridge nor a simple walkway. I find this very important as it caters to the people's safety when they walk around the neighbourhood. I also chose to propose a bridge instead of a walkway because the roads along the whole stretch of Taman Tun Sardon is very narrow and are only single-laned. My pedestrian bridge has a timber body as to retain the urban lifestyle of the neighbourhood. The body of the bridge is semi-covered with stainless steel that is wrapped with greens. At the roof of the bridge there are solar panels. These solar panels are the main source of electricity to generate the LED lights inside the bridge and also to generate the escalators which aids the users' movement up and down the bridge.
